Chapter 2

I cautiously walk past the door that would lead me along. Behind me was my only salvation back in the ruins.

The only place I wouldn't have to worry about anything happening.

I wanted to run back to the ruins where it was safe with Goat Mom.

I turn around for a moment ready to make my final choice, but I sigh.

I have to go home... This place isn't where I belong.

Knowing my mind was made up, I started on my way.

With the first step I felt the cold snow on the ground. The air was cold and dark evergreen trees seemed to be everywhere.

The air is calm but I know I must be on my guard.

Toriel said that this Asgore wanted my soul, so I had to be sure I didn't get into trouble; and I vowed that I wouldn't, but I also vowed I wouldn't hurt anyone either. I would show that stupid flower.

I was about to start walking when I notice a little black camera. I wonder why it's there but I decide to shrug it off and go on my way.

I had myself as I walk. Even Underground it feels like a cold winter day back home. I recall me and the other kids playing in the snow. Having snowball fights and sled rides and just having fun for hours until we all were called back inside for hot vegetable soup and hot chocolate. I smile softly as I think of these fond memories.

Only I feel myself taken to reality when I hear a voice call out to me.

"Hey...!" It's voice a deep whisper.

I feel my muscles tense a little. I don't know if this is a friend or an enemy.

"Hey kid... It's rude not to answer..."

"I'm sorry..." I speak, quietly. "I didn't know that someone was behind me..."

I hear the crunching of snow. It's coming closer, stopping just behind me."

"Well then turn around and shake my hand..."

Not wanting to wanting to cause any trouble I slowly turn around and grab the person's hand. To hear an obnoxious farting sound coming from their hand.

I get a full look at what the guy looks like.

He appears to be a skeleton. Although he appears taller than me he is still quite short and stout. He wears a blue hoodie over a white t-shirt and some long basketball shorts. His eyes black eye sockets with glowing white dots and he has a never fading smile from his face.

"Ah... The old whoopee cushion gag... Never gets old..." He laughs, speaking more clearly with a thick Brooklyn accent.

I laugh nervously.

I look at the skeleton. He seems nice, but I feel a little weary of him. Ironically from the looks of it, he feels the exact same way, maybe more so. Almost if he's wondering what my next move will be, or what kind of person I may be.

I shrug off the uneasiness and decide to be nice.

"Yeah that's a cool prank..." I say, trying to sound normal. "I'm Frisk by the way. What's your name?"

The skeleton grins.

I'm Sans... Sans the Skeleton... You're a human ain't ya?"

"Yup!" I say.

"Well that's good to hear because my brother Papyrus is on the lookout for humans and he would love to meet one."

"Where is he?" I ask.

"He's around somewhere... But you'll meet him soon... Where are you heading anyway?"

"I'm trying to find my way back to the surface..."

"Ah that towards the direction of Asgore's castle. Apparently there's a barrier that leads to the surface. To get their you have to get through Snowdin. I'm on my way to town right now... I can show you the way if you want."

I nod my head as I follow Sans a bit before he stops.

"I think my brother's coming! Quick hide behind that conveniently shaped lamp!" He says.

Realizing I might be in trouble I quickly hide where Sans instructed but peeked out enough that I could see what was going on.

A few moments later a much taller and slimmer skeleton was on the scene. He wore a black jumpsuit with a white shirt and a blue speedo. He looked hyper and ready for action.

That had to be Papyrus.

"Sans! You lazy bones! What are you doing?! Don't you know we have to be scouting for humans?!" He said with a high pitched shriek.

"I'm on break..." Sans said, nonchalantly.

"Now's not the time to be slacking off! We need to be alert when a humans comes; and once I capture a human! I the great Papyrus will become a member of the Royal Guard! Nyeh Heh Heh!"

With that he ran off.

"Okay kid you can come out now!" Sans calls to me.

I slowly walk out still scratching my head over what happened.

"My brother may seem tough, but he won't hurt you. Anyway he would love it if he got to see a human. So make a skeleton happy huh?"

"Well if it makes him happy..."

"Thanks a lot... I'll go find him..." Sans walked off.

I decided to explore a little a more before a come to what appeared to be a toll and large black and white spotted dog jumped out.

"Hey what are you doing here?!" He demands.

"I'm trying to get to town..." I say.

"You have to prove you can pass and fight me!" He cries.

He pulls out two knives and seems to run towards him.

I see a stick on the ground and decide to throw it.

The dog seemed completely enthralled by it, but stop himself.

"No Doggo... Don't fall for that again..." He tried to resume battling me, but I grabbed the stick again and threw it.

Doggo unable to resist the second time, immediately runs after it. Bringing it back to me, wanting me to throw it again.

I smile and throw it again, Doggo instantly goes after it. I continue playing fetch with him about ten minutes before I firmly hold the stick in my hand.

"You'll let me pass if I throw it again?"

"Yes... Please throw it..." He begs.

I giggle before I throw the stick one last time. Just as Doggo goes to retrieve it, I go along my merry way.

It's about another five minutes of walking before I find myself running into Sans and Papyrus.

"I just need to capture the human and then Undyne will allow me to join the guard." Papyrus tells his brother.

"Well if you look in front of you... You'll see that there is a human right there." Sans explains.

"Where...?" Papyrus asks again.

"In front of the rock."

The two go between staring at each other and me for a few minutes before Papyrus erupts into excitement.

"WOWIE IT'S A HUMAN!"

"I'm a human!" I say pointing at myself, keeping the promise to Sans.

"Well human it is now my duty to try and capture you! And in order to do that I have created a series of puzzles to challenge you! LET US BEGIN NYEH HEH HEH!"

Papyrus runs off.

I look back at Sans.

"Don't worry kid. My brother's puzzle are a piece of cake. It would make him happy if you did them."

"Okay Sans... I'll do it..." I smile.

"You better hurry after him."

Sans walks off.

I continue walking when I notice what appears to be a dog standing covered in the snow.

I walk towards it, but I then I notice the dog emerge from the snow. It appears to a large dog in bulking armor. Towering above me.

I walk towards it.

"Hi!" I say.

The dog walks toward me.

"Would you like me to pet you?"

The dog lowers his head and allows me to gently pet him. I stroke his head and notice his tail wagging away happily.

I giggle.

"You may be a large canine but you're just big softie aren't you?"

The dog barks in excitement.

I pet him for a while longer when I realize I have to go and solve Papyrus' puzzles.

I wave goodbye to the dog before I notice a snow man seem to stare at me.

"Little girl... Can I ask you a favor?" It asks.

"Yeah?"

"Can you take a piece of me with you so a part of me can venture the world?"

I nod my head my head and take his carrot nose.

"Thank you... Now a part of me will go beyond the snow..." The snowman seemed content.

I bid the snowman goodbye and journey on my way to find Sans and Papyrus on the other side of huge sheet of ice.

"For your first puzzle human. You must travel across this sheet of ice. But it will not be that simple as throughout it is rigged with electricity; and you must find the clear path. Ready to...

Papyrus steps on the ice and he electrocutes himself.

"Sans what did you do?!" He growls.

"You need to give him the orb bro..." Sans chuckles.

"Of course..."

I watch as Papyrus creates a path for me to follow and then hands me the orb and quickly walks back.

"Ready now solve the puzzle!" Papyrus orders.

I happily skip along the path to the other side.

"I've solved the puzzle." I say.

"This cannot be!" He cries. "How could you have solved a puzzle created by the Great Papyrus!"

He then pauses and then smiles.

"Either way that was only the first puzzle. Now onto the next one... NYEH HEH HEH!"

He runs off.

"Thanks for playing along with him." Sans says. "It means a lot to him. You notice that costume he's wearing?"

I nod.

"I made that for him for party. But he's been wearing it ever since. He says it's his uniform when capturing humans."

"Papyrus really must be dedicated." I smile.

"You have no idea kid... Well we better head off to the next puzzle."

I start off again when I notice Sans seem to vanish I decide to run again when I notice another dog. This one is much smaller than the armored dog. It looks it me excitedly.

I decide to pet it as well.

I lift my hand up to see the dog become excited.

Taking it as a good sign. I pet the dog and he becomes more and more excited. I continue to pet him seeing how happy he looked when I find myself discovering that the dog's neck seem to started extending. I watch as it keeps on going, but the dog just seems so happy that I can't bring myself to stop. I never seen a dog this excited before. It would be about fifteen minutes when the dog's neck was wrapped all around the area. I decide that's enough and slowly stop. The was tired out anyway and fell asleep.

"That dog has gone where no dog has gone before..."

I resume my walk when I notice what appeared to be an ice cream stand.

I hear my stomach growling.

"Ice cream!" I cheer.

I walk towards the vendor.

"I wish there were more customers. This is the perfect..." He notices me. "Oh hello. Would you like a nice cream. It's the perfect treat to warm your heart."

"Do you have strawberry?"

"Sure do..."

He hands me one and I pay him some gold I found. I walk again as I eat my nice cream. It taste a little different but it's not to bad. Puts something in my stomach.

Just as I finish I see the two skeleton brothers once again with a piece of paper before me.

"For your next challenge you must solve what's on that paper."

I walk over to the paper and see it's a kiddie word search.

I look at Papyrus and shrug.

"Sans she's not doing anything."

"Maybe I should've gone with the crossword puzzle..."

"That's just nonsense! Everyone knows junior jumble is far superior!"

"Those junior jumbles are just for babies... Crosswords are much more of a..."

"I disagree..." I say.

The two turn to me.

"Junior jumble is quite the challenge... Especially one that is created by the Great Papyrus!"

Papyrus grins with delight.

"NYEH HEH HEH HEH! The human agrees with me Sans! But for now let us continue!"

I wait for him to run off when Sans speaks again.

"Thanks for playing along with him. He takes pride in those puzzles; but I think we both know that crosswords are more tricky."

I merely nod my head.

Sans winks for a moment before walking off again.

I continue on my way again to find a huge plate of spaghetti in the middle of the path. I attempt to eat it some but's frozen solid to the table. I shrug it off before continuing on. As I continue I find myself coming across a dog couple that attempt to attack me while they constantly smooch. It's not hard to avoid them and after awhile they move out of my way as they continue kissing and saying what appears to be lovey dovey things... I don't understand grown ups sometimes.

After some walking and some more encounters with some monsters I run into Papyrus again.

"There you are human! Did you happen to find a plate of spaghetti that I left for you back there?" He asks.

I think back to the frozen spaghetti.

"Oh yeah... I found it..." I say.

"Wow what did you think of it?"

I hadn't tried it since it was frozen solid; but the look of pride on Papyrus' face is sweet to hurt so I decide to fib.

"It was delicious!" I smile. "It was nothing short for the Great Papyrus!"

The skeleton smirks.

"Indeed! Master chef Papyrus makes nothing but the finest of spaghetti... NYEH HEH HEH!"

I look around to see a snowy field with several spikes and maze filled with cross marks.

"Here's the next puzzle for you human. Unfortunately the snow froze everything and the solution is different from what I originally planned, but you're more than welcome to solve the puzzle on your own."

I look over the puzzle before I notice a button behind the tree. I carefully move behind it and press the button. The X's all immediately change to O's.

Papyrus looks completely shocked.

"WOW YOU SOLVED IT! AND YOU DIDN'T EVEN NEED ME! YOU REALLY MUST LOVE PUZZLES DON'T YOU?!"

"Puzzles are cool!" I say.

"In that case, on to the next puzzle; a puzzle that might even be too easy for you!"

Papyrus cackles before running.

Just as I start to walk along I see Sans standing there.

"Good job on solving the puzzle. You didn't even need my advice; which is fine by me. I just love being able to absolutely nothing."

I run off to find the two of them again standing in front of a machine with bored filled with grey tiles.

"For your next puzzle you must pass through these tiles; but here's the catch: when I throw the switch the tiles will turn a different with different functions. Red are impassible... Green will make you fight a monster... Yellow will electrocute you... Blue is wet and you must swim throw... Blah Blah... smells like oranges... Piranhas... Blah... Lemons... Blah Blah... Pink does nothing... Did you get all that?"

I blink a few times... the directions were given to me so quickly but I decide to go with it.

I nod.

Papyrus threw the switch and tiles light up with color; but almost immediately the tiles fizz out of control and before I can even step on them the machines circuits out and the tiles go red and useless.

Papyrus seems unfazed as he spins away from the scene.

I'm still confused as I walk across the path and approach Sans.

"See that spaghetti back there? That's the best's he's ever made it. He's gotten better since Undyne's been giving him cooking lessons. Maybe next year he'll make something that someone will be able to digest."

I continue walking along to find myself walking along this steep bridge with nothing but plunging darkness below. I have to wander what's down. Especially since we're underground. Is it more darkness or do we start moving towards the earth's core? I start coming up with possible solutions when I see the skeleton brothers at the end of the bridge. Which has me wondering... How did Sans get there before me? If I recall, I had started off before he did.

"All right human, here's is your last challenge!"

A gauntlet of deadly weapons hang above below the bridge. Including what appears to be a white little puppy. Just hanging there looking all chill and stuff.

These weapons would definitely cause me fatal injury. Only thing this is though... I have a feeling Papyrus isn't even going to do anything about it. Now that I think about it... I really don't think he genuinely wants to hurt me. He could've overwhelmed and captured me anytime he wanted to. I was nowhere near as strong as he was. So why wasn't he?

"When I activate this gauntlet of danger every object here will move left and right across the bridge. Victory will be slim for you..."

But Papyrus does nothing.

"What are you waiting for?" Sans asks.

"Nothing I'm just..."

For a moment Papyrus looks so uneasy... Almost as if he's going to cry.

But an instant he reverts to confident brash self.

"Wait a minute... We can't do this. This puzzle has no class or dignity at all. Away it goes!"

The weapons and the puppy disappear.

There is silence for a brief moment.

"Papyrus..." I softly call out.

The skeleton seems to jump at the sound of my voice before regaining composure.

"What... What are you looking at. This is a victory for the Great Papyrus." He laughs nervously before running off.

I walk up to Sans.

"Sans..." I ask.

"I don't know what he's going to do now..." He explains. "But I would be aware of blue attacks. That's what he's known for."

I nod before running after Papyrus before Sans calls back to me again.

"Hey kid... It looks like and my brother are about to battle my brother. I would be careful, because if something were to happen..."

Without warning the white dots of Sans' eyes vanished leaving nothing but black. I wasn't necessarily terrified but it was definitely spooky to say the least, but what he said next really got me.

"You're gonna have a bad time..." He says in a rather chilling voice.

I merely nod my head at his words before his eyes return to normal.

"Anyway... you better go after him."

I quickly run along to path to find another bridge deeply surrounded in fog and Papyrus standing at the other end.

"Human I have concluded from are meeting... That you are an individual that deeply loves puzzles... Is quite fond my magnificent spaghetti and has seen to take a liking to my awesomeness... It's hard for one that doesn't have many friends. But worry not human! I the Great Papyrus shall..."

He stops for second.

"No... I can't... I have a mission to capture you... I made it a my mission to capture a human and bring them to Undyne so I could finally take my place in the royal guard. Even if they were almost as awesome as me!"

"But Papyrus..." I ask, gently. "Is this really what you want... We don't have to enemies... We can be friends..."

Papyrus gives me a sad smile.

"I would love to be friends with you... But it is also my duty to capture you... So human are you ready to battle...?"

I don't want to fight him and I can in his eyes he doesn't want to either. But I brandish a confident smirk.

"Well I guess I have no choice but brave the odds against the Great Papyrus!"

The taller skeleton smirks.

"Well then human get ready for the battle of your life...! NYEH HEH HE...!"
Here's the long awaited chapter 2. I chose not all the monster encounters to save time and so I didn't feel like I was repeating the encounter constantly. Next chapter will involve the chapter and the date.
I own nothing.
