Chapter 15

Mabel felt the rain beating down her back as she ran as fast as she could.

Her mind was racing a mile a minute. She had to think quickly as to how she could escape from the monster that was chasing her. The monster that wanted to kill her.

Thunder roared and lightening flashed, but the young woman refused to look back. She felt that if she did, she would make a mistake.

She heard the sound of slithering behind her; it wouldn't a lot to tell her that Bill was not very far behind. He was quite swift and was able to maneuver passed the trees without much trouble.

The mud on the ground was making Mabel's running much tougher and started to cause her to stumble.

She choked back a sob, terrified she was going to trip, if she did, Bill would pounce her instantly.

The question was though: where was she going to go?

She couldn't go home. Bill would kill Dipper and her mother right in front of her. The traveling group was nothing more than a grave yard now. The nereid garden was probably just a garden now and the protection it had was most likely gone by now when Mermando married the princess and he wasn't coming back for her. Even if he tried, his father would never let him.

She had no place to go; and Bill knew this.

His laughter seemed to bounce off her shoulders as she ran.

"This is all in vain, little one!" He taunted. "You can only run for so long! You'll get tired... Or you'll trip and fall!"

Mabel ignored him as she continued running.

Thunder and lightening continued flashing in the sky. Almost as if it wanted her to slip. The weather seemed to be against her, as well; wanting the young woman to succumb to the sinister fate that was awaiting her.

The thought was so embedded into her mind that she didn't feel herself trip until she felt herself splattering into the thick mud below her feet.

She whimpered as she tried to pull herself up, but as she predicted, Bill pounced on her almost instantly.

Mabel shielded her body with her hands for a moment before she grabbed his clawed hands with her own, pushing them back.

It took all of the strength she had to keep those claws away from her. One good swipe and she would be bleeding to death.

Her eyes were everywhere, wondering what she should do.

"You can't keep me back forever, Shooting Star... But it's so cute seeing you try!" The siren taunted.

Mabel continued looking around, looking for a way to make her escape. She noticed a little tree she could crawl under due to her small size.

Reacting she ducked and quickly crawled under the tree and began running again.

Relieved she had some distance again, the young woman continued to her unknown location.

A part of her hoped and prayed that Dipper would've come looking for her by now and just happened to stumble upon the two of them, turning the tide of things.

Before she knew what happened, Mabel could feel the ground underneath her give way and she fell through.

She screamed in terror as she felt herself become entangle in a thicket of vines.

She struggled as she tried to untangle herself from the mess, with her heart beating fast in her ears. Tears dripping down her wet cheeks. She wanted to go home. She wanted to be anywhere but here.

Laughter boomed from above her. She looked up to see Bill looking down upon her. Just watching her struggle as she shook his head.

"Would you like some help?" He asked, mockingly. "I can help you, you know."

Mabel closed her eyes tightly as she continued to pull herself out of the mess.

After freeing herself, she let herself fall into the cold waters below.

She looked around for a few moments before she saw several little heads bobbing in the water with her. To realize that they were about ten of the little sea snakes.

She let out a frightened scream as she desperately swam out of the water to get away from them.

"Stop her my pets!" She could hear the siren cry. "Make sure she doesn't escape!"

The slowly made their way towards the young maiden.

Mabel just managed to pull herself out of the water and continued running in the darkness.

Now it seemed she was surrounded by nothing but darkness making it impossible to see where she was going. She was now running almost blindly at this point; and it seemed that she could run into Bill by accident and she would never even realize it until it was to late.

That was when she felt a sharp pain in her ankle.

Mabel looked down to see one of the snakes was latched on to her right ankle.

Panic swooped through her as she tried to unlatch it, but another snake jumped on and bit her left leg. She tried to get rid of that one to but, soon all of the snakes seemed to jump on her ankles and legs and kept biting. The pain soon became to much and Mabel found herself falling to the ground. The venom was painful in her legs and couldn't even crawl.

"Please stop..." She begged, tears falling from her hazel eyes.

The little snakes only laughed childishly as they continued biting her.

"Enough!" A voice ordered. "Get off! She's mine!"

The snakes immediately jumped off and scurried away.

Mabel looked up to see Bill slowly moving towards her.

She tried to crawl away but the pain was to immense for her to even move.

She could barely flinch when she felt the serpentine tail wrap around her waist and pull into the siren's arms. She could only try to push him away; but he only laughed at her pitiful efforts.

"You've led quite the chase, Shooting Star... But now you have no strength left to run..."

Mabel continued to struggle, crying and hiccupping bitterly.

A clawed rubbed her back.

"Shh... Don't cry... I'm going to take all of your suffering away..." His voice was low and soft. "Everything will be as it should be..."

Bill removed the triangle that seemed to cover his right eye; revealing a black void with a small white light that could be called an eye. The left one glowed a sinister yellow.

Mabel felt her chest heaving in fear. She turned to turn away.

"Don't be frightened, little one." He purred. "Just look into my right eye and all your pain will go away."

Mabel could feel the void trying to drive her insane. If she continued staring at it, she was going to lose her mind. She looked around her to find that triangle the he used to keep it covered. She found it just in front of her. Carefully she grabbed it and with every fiber of strength Mabel just managed to plop it back on over his eye. The essence faded quickly, but Mabel could feel blood gushing from her nose from the impact it was had on her head.

Bill looked shocked. No one was able to do that before, he usually did to keep his resistant victims from struggling, but she broke through it. Then again... Perhaps it may be better that she was fully aware of what would happen. It would make her suffering much more fun.

"It's a shame..." He sighed. "You could've avoided suffering, but then again, perhaps I would like it better if you were fully aware as I killed you."

He looked down at her trembling body.

"And it's going to be nice and slow... but there's still something I wanted first..." He purred.

"No... Please..." Mabel begged. "Just kill me..."

"Shh..." He purred.

Before Mabel could do anything else he started to sing. His voice was quickly starting to calm her down. She was starting to slowly forget why she was so upset and frightened. The creature before her appeared so beautiful and his voice was so soothing. Why was so scared?

Then for a second Mabel figured out why she was scared. She had to do something before his singing completely enveloped her. She looked all around when she noticed a large jagged rock. She slowly felt for it and grabbed it quickly. Without wasting another minute, she stabbed the monster in his eye.

Bill let a cry of shock, forcing himself to let the young woman go.

Mabel wasted no time in running.

The siren quickly healed his eyes before she scanned the dark. The diversion gave Mabel enough time to escape again.

"WHERE ARE YOU!?" He roared. His yellow eye turning a dark shade of red.

He scanned the area looking for her, but she actually managed to hide herself.

She was indeed hiding, he could smell her powerful fragrance.

He continued scanning the area waiting to see to spot her curly dark hair, but surprisingly she was keeping herself well hidden. He waited a little longer when he realized wherever she was hiding, she wasn't coming out.

Perhaps he would have to do what he originally promised.

He grinned a little before he quietly slithered away, making it seem like the young woman was convinced he was still there.

Mabel lay hiding in a tiny opening under a tree that was just big enough for her to crawl through.

She refused to make a sound in case he was close by. She would only wait and see what would happen.

Hours seemed to pass, leaving Mabel very on edge. Did Bill get sick of waiting and leave or was he still there? She slowly crawled out of her hiding spot and looked around.

She saw and felt no sign of him.

And Mabel knew that may have been both a good and bad sign.

Good because she was still alive but bad because...

Her eyes widened in terror as she started running.

She had to get back home.

Mabel prayed that she wasn't to late.
I don't like the possibility of what could be waiting for Mabel when she gets home.
I wonder what it could be?
I own nothing
